Content Editing: In addition to tightening up or expanding the manuscript as needed, our editors can ensure it is written to the audience the book is meant to address.
Copyediting: Our editors will thoroughly review and correct your manuscript following the Chicago Manual of Style, 15th Edition in addition to any style guide that you provide. The work is done either electronically or on paper, as you direct. A style sheet is provided along with the edited manuscript.
Coding: Files are coded in Word, utilizing Word’s style sheets. Standard styles such as bodytext, chapnum, chaphead, a-head, TOC, etc., are used and styles for all elements are provided. The coding used is compatible with all versions of InDesign and QuarkXpress.
ISBN, CIP, Copyright Registration: We can set up an account for your press or use your existing account to complete all requirements for your titles. We will also mail the appropriate numbers of copies to complete registration requirements.
Cover Design: We provide a minimum of three front-cover concepts based on your design request, utilizing inexpensive stock photography/illustration or art that you provide. Covers are completed once all the elements are provided (back cover copy, logos, spine width, etc.), and files that comply with printer’s specs are provided along with archive files.
Text Design and Typesetting: Initially, we will provide sample pages of a design that includes all elements in the book. Once approved, the entire text is set. We can set up the design to meet a specified page count, if desired.
Proofreading: This final look at the book as a whole will catch any remaining errors in the text or the layout.
Indexing: Many nonfiction books require an index and we can provide that at a low cost.
Publicity: Publicity, is often the lynch pin in getting your book out there. In additon to maintaining subscriptions to Cision and MyMediaInfo, our publicist has many contacts in the industry and will work her magic with your book!
Pricing for most services is given on a per-page basis, except for ISBN, CIP, copyright registration, cover design, and publicity. Quartet Books understands that all presses are working on tight budgets, and we will work with you to give you the best pricing.
